Newsbreak is changing...

Hey,

Today I got an email. A final reminder, from Newsbreak. To join their “new” contributor network?!?

This led me down a spiral through my email.

I found some past notifications from this and here’s what I know…

What is changing with Newsbreak?

First, before going into the changes, I want to share a bit about my history with Newsbreak.

I joined their contributor network back in 2021.

I learned about it on Medium and quickly jumped aboard.

I’ve grown to over 45,000 followers there and despite being pretty inactive the past year or so, some of my stories still pick up traction from time to time and after a recent “tea session” with a fellow NB writer, I decided to get serious about it again.

The tea was that top writers were being paid, VERY WELL.

He was making $7K to $8K a month as a Newsbreak writer. When I checked in with him a few months later, he had just had a $13K month with them!

What’s his secret?

• He writes recipes

• He publishes 20 to 30 of them a day, like clockwork

So, I followed in his footsteps and it worked. My first month (actually it was only half a month) in and I made over $1,000.

But, within a few months, that success slowly started dwindling.

I now make about $XX per month, in part from a viral story or two that has kept up growth over the past few months.

That’s my history with Newsbreak.

In my peak, I was making mortgage-sized payments there and it was nice. I wasn’t even killing myself writing either. Nothing like 20-30 articles a month.

Anyway..here’s what I found about the changes.

Newsbreak is changing…why?

They are changing to an application-based contributor program. If you are an existing contributor, you are given priority.

Here’s the timeline…

I quickly clicked the link and filled out the form. It’s like a job application. I had to submit my social media, blog, examples of my writing, resume, and more.

Hopefully, it’s enough to get me accepted into the new contributor program at Newsbreak.

The last day to apply is May 1.

In a March 26 email, they explain the reason for the changes. So if you are an existing contributor, you can reference that email for more details.

Here’s a summary:

• A new application-based contributor program is being rolled out

• April 14 is the last day for contributors to be on the platform and after this date, all content will be removed and contributor status will be deactivated

• Final payout for monetization is May 15, 2025

I hope to learn more about the new contributor program and wonder if the payout structure will be different, or exist at all.
