Hey there,
Hope your week was amazing. I wanted to share an affiliate marketing hack I’ve been wanting to do forever.
It’s so simple and I really hate to call it a hack.
It’s just a smarter way of doing affiliate marketing, I think.
My struggle with affiliate marketing
Real quick..what is affiliate marketing?
It’s about promoting products as an affiliate.
You refer Instacart to your blog audience of busy moms
You share Jasper AI to your readers on Medium who also write
You promote your favorite email marketing software because you love it and you think your email list will like it too
These are all ways to promote products in affiliate marketing.
When your referral results in a conversion (either a lead or sale) you get paid.
Affiliate programs vary.
I’m in one affiliate program, for example, where I refer people who are interested in the company. When they click my link and signup to learn more, I earn $5.
They don’t even have to buy or do anything else except sign up for free.
Boom, five bucks!
I’m in another program that pays me $300 per signup/purchase.
This is different because the customer has to commit here. They have to signup and buy in order for me to get a commission.
Why affiliate marketing?
It’s really not that difficult.
You refer products and when you get conversions (either a lead or sale), you make money.
There are a ton of ways to promote products. I tend to do content marketing and some email marketing.
Write on my blog
Write for Medium
That’s basically it.
What’s the affiliate marketing hack?
There are 2 things I changed in my affiliate marketing strategy:
Invest in Medium affiliate marketing
Go for high-ticket affiliates
First, I’m going for Medium affiliate marketing.
This is where you refer on Medium. This is allowed. Here’s the affiliate policy from Medium’s site to check out on your own, if you wish.
But, you want to do it tastefully.
Keep the audience in mind, provide valuable content, and write good stuff.
And of course, you’ve got to disclose.
That means you want to tell your readers that affiliate links are in the article you wrote.
Medium is good for affiliate marketing because they are a high domain authority (DA) site. Out of 100, they are ranked 95 which is EXTREMELY good.
That means, they have a very high likelihood of ranking for keywords on search engines very quickly.
Example:
For the keyword “clubhouse on ipad” my Medium article is in the #2 position…
Imagine if you ranked affiliate articles like this and got hordes of external traffic to your articles, making you money with affiliate marketing!
That’s how this all works.
Next, I started promoting high-ticket affiliate products. No more $2 commission Amazon products or $8 commission affiliates.
Those small commissions can add up but it takes the same amount of energy to create content for an $8 commission as it does for a $400 commission so, why not focus my energy on the high-ticket offers?
This isn’t rocket science and it’s not the first time I’ve heard this.
It is the first time I’m really trying it.
So far, I’ve gotten $1,200 in commissions but, with one dropping off, it’s a total of $900 in commissions from 3 bookings! And, I haven’t been doing this long.
And, that’s the hack: Medium affiliate marketing + high-ticket offers
Tips to succeed on Medium
I have a ton of Medium tips you can read.
Here are some quick bullet points for making the most out of Medium affiliate marketing:
Aim for mid to long-form content: That means at least 1,000 to 1,500 words but the longer, the better (no fluff).
Use AI to help: I like Jasper. It can help you write affiliate articles really fast.
Disclose, disclose, disclose
Provide value: Write content that helps people
Choose affiliate programs that aren’t saturated to death on Medium: For example, I’ve seen A TON of articles about Jasper on Medium so I’d probably steer clear of that affiliate. If you can find an affiliate that hasn’t been talked about or covered as much, that’d be your best bet, in my opinion.
Think outside the box: don’t be afraid to be different. You can choose a really unique niche and be successful.
