How I get inspiration for my blog content
Plus, 7 ways to monetize your content (half these will surprise you)
Hey there,
It’s Monday! We’re almost to September. I hope your week is off to a great start!
I wanted to talk about how I find inspiration for my content Writer’s block or creator’s block is very real. You feel stuck and don’t know what to write or create. Here’s how I get my best ideas…
I do a lot of things, honestly. But, some of my best ideas come from these two things…
Comments from my content
Comments from others’ content
This is so easy to do.
First, look at your content’s comments. What questions are your audience asking you? What kind of conversations are happening in the comments? Address these things and write about them!
Look at your competitors. For example, on Medium, I look at the side hustle tag since I write a lot of side hustle content. I’ll check out the top stories for that tag and go straight to the comments to see what kinds of conversations are happening, to get some ideas for new blogs.
Super easy.
Next, let’s tackle content monetization. There are so many ways to do this. You want to have multiple income streams as a creator. Never be in a position where you feel like you’re chasing the money. This can happen if you’re stuck with 1 or 2 lonely income streams.
Here are 7 ways to generate money as a creator…
7 Monetization Ideas (Some may surprise you!)
1. Donations
I don’t hear people talk about this one too much. Flat out ask your subscribers, followers, readers to support you! With…donations.
Patreon, Ko-fi, and other platforms are good for this. You can also post your PayPal or CashApp link.
Don’t be afraid to ask. Don’t feel shy. Just ask.
2. Sponsored links
One of THE EASIEST ways to make money. I’ve been doing this more in the last year. Sponsored links are about companies paying you to insert links into your existing content. It takes virtually no work and can earn you hundreds per link.
I’ve been approached by all the opportunities for sponsored links on my blog. Make sure your contact info is prominently displayed on your site so brands can easily reach out.
3. UGC
Make money creating content for others. This is great for people who love content creation but, may not necessarily have a big audience where sponsored posts would work well. UGC is a natural fit. There are creator programs that exist for UGC like TikTok’s Creative Challenge and others. Pitching your favorite companies is also an option.
4. Audio courses
Like a longer podcast, kind of. Create an audio course, sell it online. Avid.FM is an option for this. I’ve wanted to do this for so long but, haven’t pulled the trigger on it yet. I’d think these would be easier to create than video courses. And, a good way to generate passive income.
5. Coaching
Teach others what you do, one-on-one. I like doing this in a group setting too. I’m re-opening my website flipping group coaching in a few days, for example. I’ll talk to the group online in a group setting so I can teach once. Students get more handholding and get a chance to relationship-build with the coach and others, if they’re in a group coaching.
6. Affiliate marketing
Refer your favorite products and services to your audience, as an affiliate. Earn a commission, when a sale is made!
There are some really profitable high commission affiliate products that exist. They can be incredibly helpful for your audience and reward you handsomely when you successfully make a referral.
My free book on affiliate marketing talks more about what it involves and how it works.
7. License your content
License your content for use by others. Photos, video, and music are the content types this can work for. It’s kind of like renting your content out, like if you whitelist your TikTok videos for ads with advertisers.
Onto You!
Where do you draw inspiration from? How do you monetize?
P.S. My website flipping group coaching opens in a few days! Watch me flip a website in public! Learn how to create a business for yourself by building and flipping microwebsites!
