Going full time on my blog
Hi,
Something occurred to me. What would happen if I went full-time on my blog?
I published this story on Medium recently. It talks about how I wrote a whopping 18 blog posts on Millennial Nextdoor last month, including traffic stats and plans for future growth.
What were to happen if I started blogging like it was my full-time job? Kind of like I do with Medium.
When I made this change on Medium, my traffic, following and income started growing like crazy. Within a few months, I went from ~100 to thousands of followers and grew my income from a few bucks a month to nearly $6,000 in one month.
I decided to take this challenge on and see how making this change could impact my blog.
So, I’m going all in.
Here’s how I’ll take my blog full time…
Taking my blog full time in 5 steps
Ok, this is how it’ll work…
Step 1.) Revamping existing blog posts
Revamping my blog post will involve extensively going through all my posts. My goal will be to make them better.
That means..
Adding content to the posts to make them beefier and provide even more value to the reader
Look for opportunities to monetize and take action
Research and rank for additional keywords for that post
Track the results
Step 2.) Writing new blog posts
Writing blog posts will be done alongside revamping my existing posts.
I have over 200 posts on MND. It will take some time to go through them all and I want to continue publishing fresh content to the blog while I’m doing it.
I don’t know how many posts I will aim to post per month, probably something like 5 posts a week but, I’ll finalize this before I execute my plan.
Writing new blog posts includes:
Doing keyword research
Outlining blog posts
Planning monetization
Editing and proofreading then, publishing
Marketing
Step 3.) Marketing
I barely do any marketing for my blog.
I want to change this and I’ll start with Pinterest.
Step 4.) Monetization and income suite
Looking for opportunities to make money is what happens in step 4.
That means I’ll evaluate my current monetization methods and try to find ways to improve those. I will also look at new ways to make money with the blog.
I once read that 10,000 monthly views can earn $10,000 per month with blogging.
I challenge myself to meet that goal.
Step 5.) Analytics drill down
Lastly, looking at the analytics.
Figuring out what’s working and what’s not
Looking at top pages
Identifying ranking keywords
I’m going to look at it all and continue to review analytics throughout this process.
What do you think?
So, that’s the plan.
Are you blogging? Do you treat it like a full-time income?
This post shows you how to start a money-making blog, if you want to start your own self-hosted blog.
