Hey there,
This is part 3 in my Creating new income streams series and in this email I’m covering affiliate marketing.
Affiliate marketing can be easy money.
If you have an audience online (i.e. you write for Medium, have a newsletter, blog, social media influence, create content online) then affiliate marketing is a natural fit for an additional income stream.
How much do affiliate marketers make?
ZipRecruiter says the average salary of an affiliate marketer is over $180,000 per year.
But, are people really making that much?
Over $200,000 from affiliate marketing in a year from TikToker Tori Dunlap
$50,000/month from affiliate marketing from TikToker Becca Dunkin
$4,000+ per month from Medium writer Jenn (me)
Finding affiliate programs
Start small. Look at your audience and identify a pain point they have. Offer a solution to solve their problem.
Affiliate networks like Impact Radius, Partnerstack, and Panthera are some that I personally use.
You can also join as an affiliate directly with the company. Their affiliate program info tends to be in the footer of the website.
The power of high ticket affiliate programs
When I switched over to referring high ticket affiliate programs, my income transformed. I logged into an affiliate network recently that I hadn’t checked in a while and saw that I got over 100 conversions for a tiny payout that with a high ticket affiliate program would’ve got me tens of thousands of dollars!
This is been the secret sauce that has helped me go from earning a little bit of affiliate income on the side to earning a full-time income from affiliate payouts alone.
Try this.
Where to refer and get customers
I post affiliate links in my personal blog and my Medium blog. Some affiliates also allow email marketing, social media marketing, and paid promotion like if you invested in Google ads, or Pinterest ads, for example.
Get inspired
If you’re looking for inspiration, there are so many places I tend to go to spy on what top affiliates are earning.
First, Starter Story is in excellent place where you can read founders stories. Go to their case studies and look at the publishing and media founders so you can review how much bloggers and Podcasters earn from affiliate marketing.
Next, hit up social media. Go to Pinterest and search for income reports and you’ll find a ton of business owner and blogger income reports that show affiliate earnings.
You can also search for affiliate marketing or affiliate marketing income on TikTok and YouTube and see what successful affiliates are doing and how much they’re making.
Onto You
It took a while for affiliate marketing to finally click for me. Once you start, it’s not unusual for it to take several weeks or several months to start earning a regular income or start making a nice side income, so give yourself some grace with this.
Is affiliate marketing an income stream that you would try?
Cheers,
Jenn

P.S.S.I just got an email from one of my favorite creators, Abena Talks from Medium. She had put out these awesome done-for-you offers for Gumroad, Medium, Hubpages, ebooks and more, and she just announced that she is getting rid of most or all of them!
So if you have been on the fence on buying one of her services, I encourage you to take action while they’re still available.
My favorites are the Gumroad done you offer, which creates a full Gumroad business. The Medium done for you offer will help you get up to $500 or more per month in Medium earnings and the e-book done for you offer creates a 10k word ebook plus marketing.
Her clients are already seeing results from her services. She wrote about one client making $6,000 in her first month!
P.S.S.S. I’m sharing my Q1 income report soon. It’s reserved for my paid Substack subscribers. Look out for it soon….
Affiliate Marketing is one of my top income streams, most of which is earned through lead magnets and email marketing (and my newsletter).
